A transparent model, from project selection
to certification
PZU Program No.: GFP-001 is divided into five main phases, elaborated to guarantee scientific quality, transparency and methodological rigour.
From the selection of eligible sites and the definition of the baseline to the elaboration of environmental improvement plans, PZU defines the guidelines for wetland management plan in Italy.
Site selection and planning
Identification of the most suitable wetlands according to ecological and technical criteria and definition of intervention plans.
Preliminary and baseline studies
Collection of basic ecological data on soil, water and biodiversity to define the emissions baseline.
Quantification of NCCUs
Identification of sources, sinks and reservoirs (SSR) of greenhouse gases and calculation of equivalent NCCUs.
Definition and Implementation of Improvement Plans
Development of improvement plans to maximise carbon sequestration capacity and ecosystem quality.
Implementation, monitoring and validation
Implementation of activities and monitoring. Validation of results and generation of NCCUs, registered on blockchain.

Wetlands Sustainable Management: Environmental and Climate Benefits
Environmental Benefits
The Program was created to generate a concrete environmental impact in the Italian wetlands by promoting the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the natural carbon sink capacity. These interventions are aimed at significantly improving water quality, preserving key habitats and fostering local biodiversity.
Climate Benefits
The wetlands involved can thus benefit from hydrological restoration and sustainable vegetation management, counteracting environmental degradation and strengthening ecosystem resilience. In addition, the program actively involves local communities, raising their awareness of the value of wetlands and creating opportunities for sustainable, participatory development
